I’ve gotta say, I really don’t at all love the message I sometimes hear about raw fooders never getting sick. Or that we’re failing on raw food and doing it wrong if we’re fighting a cold. We’ve all got different immune systems that fluctuate day to day, and not everyone starts out with a clean-slate-awesome immune system from birth. From my own experience, I can say that raw food drastically increased my health and drastically decreased the incidences of illness I experience, but I do still fight the occasional cold, and this week, I have the flu. There are too many factors in our lives that contribute to our health to blame an occasional cold on doing something WRONG on the raw food diet. Please don’t let yourself feel guilty or “bad” if you happen to be the unlucky recipient of a flu or respiratory infection this, or any season. Raw or not, we’re still human.
Obviously, eat a variety of raw organic fruits and veggies, nuts and seeds (and know you’re getting more vitamins and minerals than if you weren’t eating raw), exercise, sleep well, do stuff you love and take care of yourself. And if you’re experiencing health issues, of course have them checked out by a practitioner you trust, just like you would if you were NOT eating raw. But if you’re feeling great in general, please don’t blame yourself for a simple cold. Gimme a break. More love, less blame, people. LiveLove&BU
Oh, and here’s what I’m doing that’s allowing me to heal really rapidly:
Primarily juice feasting
Easy to digest foods–I’ve eaten very little solid food the past 3 days–I had raw mushroom soup and some avocado and a pear
Crushed garlic/lemon/ginger tea
Lots of filtered water
Positive support from friends and family=LOVE
Listen to your body and give yourself what you need!
